Discovering the fundamentals of Dependability

01
01

OBJECTIVES

• Knowing and mastering dependability techniques and tools with the objective of optimising life cycle costs and improving safety and availability.
• Integrating dependability requirements into a complete development programme.
• Mastering system behaviour with respect to malfunction.

PROGRAMME

DAY 1

CONCEPTS AND DEFINITIONS
• Definitions of Dependability,
• Dependability challenges (LCC, availability and safety),
• Objectives.

DEPENDABILITY SIZING AND CALCULATION
RULES
• Reliability (MTBF, MTTF, lifetime, etc.),
• Maintainability (testability, repairability, etc.),
• Availability (A%),
• Safety sizing (ER, probability, minimal cut sets),
• Integration of requirements into design,
• Review on probabilities and Boolean algebra,
• Different probability distributions,
• Dependability – ILS interface.

DAY 2

DEPENDABILITY TOOLS
• Generic tasks of a dependability programme (allocation, specifications, operational feedback, etc.),
• Preliminary Risk Analysis,
• FMECA,
• Fault trees,
• Testability.

SPECIFIC DEPENDABILITY STUDIES
• Software reliability,
• Mechanical reliability (strength/stress, Wöhler curve, etc.),
• Human factors studies.
